Addon Statistics Down?

The statistics for my addon on April 5, 2012 show zero across the board. I know that this is not possible so I am wondering what kind of issue could be occurring to cause this? And will the statistics be automagically updated for that day after the hiccup has been corrected?

Re: Addon Statistics Down?

Mine too. The add-on users graph line just went to 0 for all three of my add-ons.

Something broke at AMO.

Well, it seems to be functioning again. And the stats did automagically update.

Re: Addon Statistics Down?

Well, they are down again. Three days so far: April 17, 18, 19. No updates yet for 20.

Hey AMO? Why does this continue to occur?

This particular stats downtime was planned in advance and should be corrected soon.

Thank you very much for the reply. I have my AMO account configured to send me emails, but I did not see anything about downtime. Is there a special place to submit for alerts such as this downtime or do I have to RSS the blog?

Re: Addon Statistics broken again

Within the last few hours, the statistics turned to garbage. The graph of number of users went to nearly 0 for all my add-ons, and the number reported on the main add-on page dropped significantly. Numbers looked valid for most of Sunday. This looks a lot like the April 6 failure.

Re: Addon Statistics Down?

I have noticed similar issues. My addon went from thousands of users on Friday down to 240 users on Saturday (with 328 downloads). Sunday went up to 539 users (with 523 downloads), which is still thousands of users below where it has been. The numbers don't seem to jive. I'm not sure all of what they have been "fixing", but I do hope they are still working on it.

That explains what happened. Murphy, meet AMO. AMO, meet Murphy.
Hopefully, they were able to hedge against this for the future.

Re: Addon Statistics Down. Again.

The statistics system is down again, for the third time this month. My add-on user counts just went to zero for all three add-ons.

Yep, it's down for me, too. It's frustrating, but considering Mozilla provides this for free and overall they do a great job I'm not complaining (too much :) ).

Don't look at it that way. If Mozilla didn't have add-on developers, it would just be another minor browser. Mozilla wouldn't be getting that $125 million a year it gets from Google for making Google the default search engine on Firefox.

Re: Addon Statistics Down?

Well, now the stats aren't zero. But all 3 of my add-ons show a 20% or so drop in number of users in the last two days, so AMO may have lost data again. It's hard to tell, though.

Some add-ons have their own usage stat collection. Is anyone cross-checking AMO's numbers with their own?

Re: Addon Statistics Down?

I don't have anything to cross-check with but I did come here looking for a reason to explain a ~20% drop in usage stats over the past couple of days.

Is this the best place to alert AMO sys-admins to a possible problem?

Thanks,
Chris

You can start by asking in the #amo channel on the Mozilla IRC network.

Re: Addon Statistics Down?

Thanks Jorge.

I've looked at my stats more deeply now that they have all updated for the past week and am fairly confident that the drop for my add-on was related to a German public holiday (about a third of my users use the German language so are presumably mostly based in that country). It's back to normal now.

If something unexplained happens again I'll pop into #AMO in case anyone there can provide any insight.

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Addon Statistics Down?

Today was a weird day for my add-on stats. An all-time high for downloads, twice the rate for yesterday, yet the user count dropped slightly.

Some transparency on how these numbers are computed would be helpful.

Re: Addon Statistics Down?

Number of users for add-ons just went to zero for many, if not all, add-ons.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... s/?last=30

AdBlock Plus just dropped from 14,342,524 to 0.

How does FF determine a "use" of an addon? Thanks!

Yeah, it looks like it's happening for all add-ons. It could be related to increased server load due to the Firefox release. We should give it a couple of days to see if the data normalizes.

xraphael75 wrote:How does FF determine a "use" of an addon? Thanks!

Firefox checks for add-on updates every 24 hours. That's the data point we use to determine add-on usage.

So basically if a user had an addon installed and it checks for an update it's assumed they're using it. That makes sense. Thank you!

Today, the "downloads" history was truncated to the last 2 days for most (all?) add-ons.

AMO moved to a new ES cluster that was missing historic stats. They're being rebuilt now and should be back shortly.
